Janine’s Heroic Return: Ghostbusters Unite in Frozen Empire!

In the highly anticipated Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, fans can rejoice at the return of the beloved character Janine Melnitz, portrayed by the talented Annie Potts. Facing an apocalyptic icy threat, even Janine is compelled to gear up and join forces with the familiar faces of Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Ernie Hudson in the iconic ECTO-1.

Annie Potts shared her excitement about Janine’s comeback in the franchise, emphasizing the urgency of the situation that brings everyone together. In an interview with Empire, Potts expressed, “It’s a desperate situation, so it’s all hands on deck. It turns out Janine is quite capable – as most women tend to be when given the chance.”

The actress revealed that the decision for Janine to take an active role in busting ghosts was unexpected. Director Gil Kenan surprised Potts during filming, informing her that it was time for Janine to suit up. Potts reflected on the moment, saying, “It came as a real surprise. We were weeks into shooting and Gil [Kenan, director] came up to me and said, ‘We think it’s time… We’re gonna have you suit up.’ I have to say I did get a kick out of it.”

Potts acknowledged Janine’s longstanding service and felt a sense of pride as the character finally received her due recognition. She explained, “Janine has served long and well, and I felt like she was finally getting her stripes, you know? She’s clearly stayed in touch with the guys [between Ghostbusters II and Frozen Empire], and she’s really been the keeper of the flame at the Firehouse. The Ghostbusters are kind of superheroes, so it’s very nice to finally be seen in that way, too.”

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is set to chill theaters on March 22, featuring the return of original Ghostbusters Potts, Murray, Aykroyd, and Hudson, along with new faces like Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Mckenna Grace, Finn Wolfhard, Patton Oswalt, and Kumail Nanjiani, who joined the series in 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife.
